How are controlled substances prescribed?

Controlled medications are prescribed only when clinically appropriate and as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

These medications require a thorough evaluation, regular follow-up, and ongoing monitoring. They are not initiated during a single visit or urgent appointment, and same-day prescribing is not provided.

Refills for controlled substances are managed during scheduled appointments only. Refills are not provided outside of appointment times, and patients are responsible for scheduling follow-up visits in advance to avoid interruptions in care. We strictly adhere to DEA regluations.

Additional information, including prior records or collateral input, may be required before prescribing. description

Laurelhurst Integrative Psychiatry is a direct-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly.

Many patients receive partial reimbursement through out-of-network benefits. Upon request, a superbill can be provided for submission to your insurance company.

New patients begin with a comprehensive initial evaluation, which allows time to understand your history, current concerns, and goals for care.

The initial evaluation is a 75-minute session designed to provide a thorough and thoughtful understanding of your mental health, medical history, and contributing lifestyle factors.

This visit is not intended to be rushed and allows time to begin developing an individualized treatment plan.

Yes. Medication may be recommended when appropriate, always as part of a broader, individualized treatment approach.

Not all treatment plans include medication. When used, medications are prescribed thoughtfully, with careful attention to benefits, risks, and long-term outcomes.

Care is intentionally unhurried and personalized, allowing time for meaningful conversation, careful evaluation, and a more complete understanding of each individual.

In addition to medication management, care may include psychotherapy, lifestyle guidance, and evidence-based integrative approaches.

Follow-up frequency varies depending on your needs and treatment plan. When medications are prescribed, regular follow-up is required to ensure safety and effectiveness.

Medication refills are addressed during scheduled appointments.

Patients are encouraged to schedule follow-up visits in advance to avoid interruptions in care. Refill requests outside of an appointment may not be accommodated if follow-up is overdue. Controlled substances are not filled without an appointment.

Communication is handled through the secure patient portal.

Messages are intended for brief administrative questions or clarifications and are typically returned within 1–2 business days. Clinical concerns, medication changes, or new symptoms generally require a scheduled appointment.

Laurelhurst Integrative Psychiatry does not provide after-hours or emergency services.

If you are experiencing an urgent mental health concern, please contact your primary care provider, visit an urgent care center, go to the nearest emergency department, or call/text 988.

ADHD evaluations are NOT completed during the initial assessment.

If ADHD is a concern, a more comprehensive evaluation is required. This typically involves additional dedicated sessions (approximately two additional hours) to allow for thorough diagnostic screening and careful consideration of contributing factors.

This approach helps ensure an accurate diagnosis and thoughtful treatment planning. Stimulant medications, when appropriate, are prescribed only after a comprehensive evaluation has been completed.

This practice is best suited for individuals seeking thoughtful, individualized care rather than brief or transactional visits.
